Currently, I am completing my Master in International Communication at the Leeds Beckett University. My programme is a special Master’s programme where I have to study in two different countries. Completing my first semester at Hanze University in the Netherlands, I came to the UK for my specialization in Public Relation Skills, Digital Communication and Communications Audit.
Experiencing different client projects and internships I always find myself looking for an opportunity, an adventure, and a challenge. I am a very determined and ambitious student who is enjoying working as a PR practitioner.
At the moment I am working part-time in a PR agency called Different PR in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. Within this placement I am writing press releases regularly, attend client meetings, build features’ databases and support their social media strategy. This gave me the opportunity to improve my writing and oral skills. Giving me the chance to have an insight of the British PR industry, I decided to stay in the UK and look for a full-time job.
Before my Master studies, I studied PR and Communications management at the European Business and Media Academy (Europäische Business- und Medienakademie, EMBA) in Düsseldorf. The study provides theoretical but also practical basics. Teaching me to use Adobe programs, Microsoft Office, HTML and CSS, I learned some very important theories. Business Economics, Media Law, Journalism, Communications Management, Event planning, Human Recourse Management, and Social Media Campaigning are just some of them.
Regularly we had to work for clients like the PR agency Ogilvy & Mather and the Chamber of Handcraft in Düsseldorf. Developing events, communication strategies or social media campaigns I learned a lot about the PR industry and gained some useful experience in the industry.
For my Bachelor degree I needed to complete a three months internship which I decided to do in a PR agency called Konstruktiv PR in Hamburg, Germany. I attended client meetings, completing media monitoring for clients, planning events, planning and conduct communications strategy, writing press releases, support their social media channels, helping to design their new website, and do business research for clients and projects.
Furthermore, I was elected to be a student representative. By partake this position I acknowledge the importance of staying organized, communicating effectively and maintaining a positive attitude towards work, people and life in general.
For my current studies I had to complete three client projects. The first project was to develop a new branding strategy for the Dutch-Chinese company EuroChoice. The second project was creating a new social media strategy for the Leeds Beckett Student Union. And last but not least, was developing a communications strategy for IKEA Leeds. Proudly, I can say that my group won the Pitch for this project.
My former education and gained experience showed me my true passion for the PR industry. I grew and became more determined, organized and adaptable. I am a fast learner and I love to experience and learn new angles of the communications industry. I learned to work on my own but also to work as a team player. I am ambitious and curious of learning more about what the PR world has to offer. Furthermore, I think through my practical studies I have a lot more to offer than other graduates and have a good understanding of the international PR industry.
